Be Strong in the Lord
and in the Power of His Might!
and in the Power of His Might!
Christian teens today face GIANT oppositions from their peers and from the society they live in. Christian Teens need to learn to stand up against a number of PEER PRESSURE GIANTS: Drugs, Alcohol, Fornication, Immorality, Violence, Cheating in School and Evil influences of all kinds. Some times it may seem impossible to stand up against such gigantic forces that battle against the Christian's beliefs. Yet, every Christian teen CAN stand firm and WIN the battle against these moral and spiritual foes.|
David in the Old Testament gives us an example of a young adult, probably between the ages of 17-19, that was concerned about the things of God and the testimony of God's people. You all probably know the story of how the huge nine foot tall Philistine giant was making fun of the Israelite army on the battle field. All the trained soldiers of Israel were to frightened to challenge this colossal Philistine warrior. Then along came David, who was bringing food to his older brothers that were on the battle field. 1Samuel chapter 17, tells us that David witnessed Goliath's challenge to God's army and David said "What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?" What was David concerned about? He was concerned about God's people and God's testimony. Listen to what David said to Goliath in 1Sam. 17:46 " that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel." That's why this young teenager was standing up to the Giant of his day, to be a witness for God and to bring glory to God.
When you face your giants of Drugs, Alcohol, Fornication, Immorality, Violence, Cheating in School and all kinds of Evil influences, you NEED to be CONCERNED for God's glory and your testimony as someone that represents the God of glory. What kept David's older brothers and the whole army of Israel from facing and battling Goliath? They didn't care enough about their own testimony or the glory God. Also, their walk with God was so shallow, that they had not learned to trust God for spiritual victories. David had learned at an early age to trust God in fighting smaller enemies such as lions and bears. 1Samuel 17: 37, "Moreover David said, "The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine."
Are you like David? Do you believe that God can deliver you from those GIANTS that you face. For you, maybe it's the giant of Peer pressure. Perhaps your "so called" friends are teasing you about not being involved with someone sexually. You know what God's word says, "Flee sexual immorality" and "Flee also youthful lusts". 1Cor. 6:13 should be memorized by every teenager, "Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body." What's so hard to understand about "FLEE" or "RUN AWAY"? 1Cor. 7:1 says "It is good for a man NOT to touch a woman." Don't touch! That's not difficult to understand. Any kind of touching that could lead to inappropriate behavior is OFF LIMITS. It could be that teens you know are trying to get you involved in Drugs or Alcohol.
Does God care what you do with your body? Yes! 1Cor. 6:19 & 20 tells us "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." The body is to be used to bring God glory. Don't destroy or abuse your body with Drugs and Alcohol! Maybe everyone around you is cheating in School tests or just a few people are trying to get you to cheat on exams. Cheating is lying in God's eyes. Proverbs 6:16-19 names 6 things that God hates. Two of them include not being truthful "These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: ..." A lying tongue" and "A false witness who speaks lies".
Christian young adults need to stand AGAINST these things that God hates and commands us not to do. As a Christian teen, you will have battles to face. Perhaps, you're battling something right now. David knew that in God's power he could defeat Goliath, even though that giant was much taller and physically much stronger. Teens need to be ready to deal with other teens teasing them and perhaps making fun of them when they take a stand for Christ. 1Sam. 17:43 reminds us that the giant mocked David, "Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?" And the Philistine cursed David by his gods." Did that mocking stop David from standing firm for God? Not at all! David faced his great obstacle "in the name of the LORD" and in God's power. David's courage to face giants should be an encouragement to all of us.
The Bible tells us that David "hastened and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine." Wow! What faith! What trust in God to defeat his enemies! God can give you the same kind of victory over every moral and spiritual giant you face as a teen in Christ. Don't be defeated by the GIANTS in your life, whatever they may be. David as a 17-19 year old young man said "the battle is the LORD'S." So go forth trusting God! Go forth praying for God's strength! Go forth with His Word in your heart! Go forth for God's glory and His Name! Live a victorious life for the Lord Jesus Christ who died for you.
