ECCLESIOLOGY - Study of the Church

The church means "a called out group or assembly." We teach that The Church is the body of Christ which is made up of regenerated people from the point of time from Pentecost until the Rapture of the Church. We teach that there is a Universal or invisible Church which comprises all believers in the Church age and that there are local churches which are made up of believers who come together in a close geographical area.

We teach that the following concerning the Scriptural view of the organization of the local church: they have multiple elders who are leaders, an elder is involved in overseeing and shepherding (although I believe pastor is a spiritual gift), the elders must qualify for that position according to 1 Tim. and Titus, deacons were servants that helped the elders (my personal view is that deacons are to be pastor's aids and not limited merely to physical ministries). We teach that the following ordinances are for the church today: the Lord's Supper, 1 Cor. 11:23-26, and baptism. We practice and teach that God has ordained that qualified (1Tim. 3:1-7 & Titus 1:5-9) elders are the governing body within the church and that at least one of the elders should have the gift of pastor/teacher (1Tim. 5:17).

We teach that the Scripture clearly reveals a universal church (Matt. 16:18; Eph. 3:10. The Lord Jesus was the maker and foundation (1 Pet.2:4-8) of the Universal Church. We teach that the Church started at Pentecost because spirit baptism was necessary to place believers into the Body of Christ (Acts 1:5; 11:15). We teach that the following are figures of the Church: "Shepherd and sheep, Jn.10; Vine and branches, Jn.15; Corner Stone and stones, Eph. 2; High Priest and kingdom of priest, 1 Pet. 2; Head of the body, 1 Cor. 12; Last Adam and new creation, Rom. 5; Bridegroom and bride, Eph. 5." We teach that the Church age will end at the time of the Rapture ,2 Thes. 2. {See also section on eschatology.}
